– Page Contains Affiliate Links – Why? (click here to expand) We lose money every month producing the TX:GX Overland website and YouTube channel. Creating content takes time and money – we have to pay for:
  • Website and WordPress hosting
  • Trip videos that cost money for fuel, admissions fees at parks/events, and wear and tear on our vehicle
  • An enormous amount of our time producing this site and the videos (I won’t even begin to calculate that cost!)
Basically, we lose money every month. We use affiliate links and YouTube monetization to try to reduce this monthly loss but they don’t pay much. We lose about $20 per month just from our website costs (not including trip costs). Purchases made via this website using affiliate links sometimes result in us making a small commission (usually 2-4%) that we use to keep the lights on. But since we lose about $20 per month (not including trip fees) you can see we are definitely not “in it for the money” – we do this out of a love for helping other people enjoy the outdoors and overlanding, to help people get started and find gear to make their trips more successful, and to produce videos that inspire and entertain our viewers. Even though we lose money each month, we are committed to helping the world we live in. Please read “Who Our Affiliate Links Benefit” to see a list of the causes and charitable organizations we donate to. Thank you for your understanding!
– Who Our Affiliate Links Benefit (click here to expand) TX:GX Overland is about experiencing the outdoors and doing so in a responsible, sustainable way. Without the trees, the forests, the clean babbling brooks and the open trails we enjoy while overlanding we simply couldn’t exist. Therefore, we are committed to helping organizations that support our outdoor adventures. Though we do not make a profit from the TX:GX Overland website or YouTube channel we still make donations to worthwhile causes. We make donations to the following organizations:
  • OneTreePlanted
  • Tread Lightly
We have reviewed these organizations and determined they fit our purpose. We do not have the resources to do an exhaustive background check of their prior/current activities, partnerships, board members, etc. so if they are “doing something bad” we’re not aware of it. We hope our donations to these organizations is doing the world some good – if you disagree with these choices we respect your decision, please respect ours.

Garmin 010-01879-00 InReach Mini, LightweightGarmin inReach Mini 2, Lightweight and Compact Satellite Communicator, Hiking Handheld, Orange

Continuing the safety theme, sometimes you need to communicate with the outside world when there’s no cell signal, hard-line phone service, or internet. That’s where the Garmin InReach Mini 2 comes in. It uses satellites to receive and send messages to family back home or has an S.O.S. button that calls the local cavalry for a full on rescue operation. We take this on every trip for peace of mind and “just in case.”

RHINO USA Folding Survival Shovel w/Pick

A off road shovel is an extremely useful tool when overlanding. Sometimes you need to dig out a stuck tire in snow, sand or mud for traction, remove a large rock impeding your path down a rocky trail, or even level off your campsite for a comfortable, level night of sleep. It can also be used to dig a latrine hole when nature really calls. This RHINO shovel also includes a pick and folds up for easy storage. It even comes with a carrying bag!

Jetboil Zip Camping Stove Cooking System, Carbon

A hot cup of coffee first thing in the morning or a quick hot meal at the end of a long trail day can really hit the spot! The Jetboil Zip camping stove is an incredibly fast and efficient way to heat water boiling in just 2 minutes with half the fuel other stoves require. Plus, it folds up into a small, convenient sized pouch for easy storage. The insulated cup makes it easy to carry and Jetboil offers several useful accessories like a coffee french press, skillet, and cooking utensils.

Portable Power

Let’s face it – just about everything we do anymore requires power. Navigating trails on our cellphones. Powering laptops to watch movies or surf the internet. Providing light at the campsite. They all require power where non is readily available. Fortunately, there are several great options now for portable power!

Easy to carry with enough juice to charge your cell phone several times, portable chargers are a great addition to the overlander equipment bag. Choose one that can charge several types of devices including a cell phone. Basically, anything with a USB charging cord can get juice from these deck of cards sized device to make sure you always have power when you need it most. We use this Anker portable charger and love it!

Stepping up the power juice at camp requires a slightly bigger solution. The Jackery line of portable power stations for overlanding fit the bill providing energy for larger devices such as laptops, TVs, drones, cameras and other electronic devices. They can charge your cellphone but also power up a mini fridge! This Jackery Portable Power Station Explorer 300 should handle most campsite needs and fits conveniently in your overland rig.

Portable chargers and portable power stations are great but they do need to be recharged. No fear! A foldable solar panel charger is a great way to keep things topped off when on the trail. Determine what kind of adapter your portable power pack or portable power station requires and select a solar panel that matches. This model from Topsolar works great for many different applications and with 100 watts of power it should work for most power needs.

The next time you need to treat your favorite overlander the gift ideas above are sure to be a hit!
