Best Texas Off Road Parks

Texas Off Road Parks

Off road parks offer a variety of off road driving experiences, typically from beginner to expert. They are a great way to learn the capabilities of your vehicle in a more controlled environment and can offer more challenging terrain that could otherwise be difficult to find in Texas. Some parks only allow SxS, ATV and motorcycles while some also allow highway legal and OHV vehicles. Check first before visiting any of the off road parks on this list.

Merus Adventure Park – located on the rim and in the canyon of Palo Duro Canyon in Texas, Merus Adventure Park offers 5,200 acres of offroad heaven. You will forget you are near civilization once you descend into the canyon surrounded by red and cream rock formations, This is by far the most scenic and beautiful offroad park in Texas. They offer campsite and RV sites (limited features), mountain biking trails and hiking. They are in the process of building a new office and bathhouse (as of 2022). Trails range from easy to extreme and average on the medium to difficult side.

Katemcy Rocks
Wolf Caves, LLC Off Road Park – offering offroad and rock crawling trails, Wolf Caves is a premier 4×4 destination in Mason, TX. At 430 acres it’s one of the smaller off road parks in Texas but the intense rock crawling terrain makes up for what it lacks in size. You will find unthinkable rock crawling trails and features that (for instance) require rear steering capabilities. Be warned, if you don’t have a 4″ lift and 35″ tires you will likely struggle on most trails. Wolf Caves also offers camping and RV sites, a bathhouse, group pavilion and gift shop. No UTVs, side-by-sides, motorcycles or 4 wheelers.

Northwest OHV Park – the best and closest offroad park for Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, Northwest OHV provides a wide range of trail types . Spread partly over an old quarry and surrounding hills, offroad vehicles of all types can find something to enjoy. Beware, when it rains this place gets muddy in a hurry and the trails get slick. The mud sticks around for a while due to a lack of drainage. While Northwest OHV has many fun trails that will challenge and entertain, it lacks many of the modern amenities found at other Texas off road parks. The group pavilion is closed (it’s literally falling off a cliff), there is no bathhouse or camping or RV sites and no gift shop. They do allow 4x4s, UTVs, side-by-sides and mountain bikes, but no motorcycles. Requires a Texas OHV sticker and tickets to be purchased online (as of 2021).
