Overland Expo East Is This Weekend—Here’s What’s Worth Your Attention

Visitors browsing outdoor vendor tents at Overland Expo East

A parking field full of adventure rigs is an excellent place to get expensive ideas. The better reason to go to Overland Expo East, October 23–25 at Oak Ridge Estate in Arrington, Virginia, is to ask the questions a product page never answers: How does that kitchen pack away? What does the camper weigh ready to travel? And can somebody show you how to use the recovery gear you already own?

The final Overland Expo of 2026 brings together more than 200 exhibitors, practical instruction and a Jeep off-road experience. For Texas readers already heading east, it adds a substantial stop to a fall road trip. For the rest of us, it is a useful look at the equipment and ideas competing for space in next season’s rig.

Start with the skills you’ll actually use

The education lineup is the strongest reason to spend time beyond the vendor booths. The organizer’s published program includes winch rigging, winch-line care, spotting, traveling as a couple and sleeping warm. Those subjects translate directly to a Texas camping weekend: getting unstuck, communicating clearly and enjoying the night enough to want another trip.

Pick a few sessions before arriving rather than leaving learning to whatever happens between purchases. The official education preview outlines the areas and instructors; use the current event schedule to choose sessions covered by your ticket.

Jeep brings the obstacles

Jeep’s Ride and Drive adds a purpose-built off-road course featuring the Wrangler and Gladiator, with obstacles demonstrating traction, clearance and suspension articulation. Registration is at Booth T80 during the October 23–25 event. The Jeep display will also include outfitted overland concepts.

Even if your keys say Lexus, watching tire contact and vehicle placement is time well spent. A controlled demonstration gives you something concrete to consider alongside the specification sheet.

Walk the builds with your next trip in mind

The exhibitor area and Showcase & DIY vehicles offer two different kinds of inspiration: commercially packaged solutions and the decisions owners made to suit their own travel. Look closely at access to water, storage you can reach with camp set up, and how much room remains after the interesting equipment goes in.

Our suggested approach: bring one problem you want to solve. Better communications? Easier meals? Less cargo to unpack? Ask vendors about installed weight, vehicle fit and what the complete setup costs. That keeps an afternoon of browsing connected to an actual improvement.

The gathering continues after the booths close

Friday’s evening program includes the film festival, while Saturday brings the Overland Expo Foundation raffle. Camping makes those conversations part of the weekend rather than the thing you leave early to miss. The organizer reported Premium and Forest Camping sold out in its October 20 update; check current availability before building plans around either.

If you’re going

  • Where: Oak Ridge Estate, Arrington, Virginia.
  • When: October 23–25, 2026. Show hours are Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.; Sunday, 9 a.m.–3 p.m., Eastern.
  • Tickets: Buy online through the official ticket page; parking and camping depend on the pass selected.
  • Plan your day: Download the organizer’s app and select Overland Expo East 2026 for the map and schedule.

If Virginia is too far for this weekend, take the useful part of the idea home: choose a skill to improve and one packing problem to fix before your next outing. A better trip does not have to begin with a bigger build.
