Recreational Aviation Foundation and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department announced plans to create air strips at select parks throughout the state. The strips will allow visitors to fly in private planes, and increase access to these sites.
Creating these landing strips will enable additional access to Texas state parks, especially those in far flung places like Big Bend State Park and others. It also provides a unique experience for aviation enthusiasts wanting to travel to these parks by plane.
Grass strips will be developed and pilots will self coordinate landing activities to ensure safe usage. The landing strips will not be managed by towers and therefore require no staff.
If you are a pilot and love visiting Texas state parks – we imagine you are soaring high today!
