CBI & Prinsu Lexus GX550 Products: The Complete Guide

The Lexus GX has been a favorite platform in the off-road and overland world for years, and CBI Offroad Fab and Prinsu have been right there with it. From armor and bumpers to the roof racks you’ll see on GX builds from Texas to trails halfway around the world, CBI and Prinsu have built a reputation for equipment designed to be used — not just bolted on for Instagram photos.

The all-new Lexus GX550 hasn’t changed that relationship. CBI and Prinsu have already developed an impressive lineup for the new platform, including bumpers, skid plates, rock sliders, roof racks, storage solutions and recovery-focused accessories. If you’re building a GX550 for serious trail use, overlanding or simply want better protection and utility, here’s what they currently offer.

Prinsu Pro Lexus GX550 Roof Rack

Prinsu Pro Lexus GX550 Roof Rack

The Prinsu Pro is the centerpiece of the company’s GX550 lineup. Its redesigned aluminum crossbars are advertised as 44% stronger than the previous Prinsu design, with six integrated drop-in mounting points per crossbar, stainless hardware and a more rigid two-piece side rail. The rack installs without drilling and is rated for 700 lbs dynamic and 1,200 lbs static capacity, making it particularly attractive for rooftop tents and heavily equipped overland builds.

Advertised Price: $1,480

Owner Feedback: GX550 owners have praised the rack’s low-profile appearance and extensive mounting flexibility. It appears repeatedly on complete GX550 overland builds alongside rooftop tents, auxiliary lighting and Prinsu’s window panels.

CBI Lexus GX550 Front Bumper

CBI Lexus GX550 Front Bumper

CBI’s low-profile steel front bumper gives the GX550 a proper recovery platform without turning the front end into a battering ram. It mounts directly to the frame, accepts 8,000–12,000 lb winches, incorporates soft-shackle-compatible recovery points and a 30-inch light-bar mount, and retains the factory sensors. At roughly 55–65 lbs, it keeps weight relatively reasonable for a steel bumper.

Advertised Price: $1,700–$1,900

Owner Review #1: One GX550 owner chose the CBI over competing bumpers because installation required less cutting of the factory fascia — but ultimately criticized limited access to a manually operated winch clutch and some corner fitment gaps.

Owner Review #2: Another owner with an extensive CBI/Prinsu build was disappointed enough with the fitment and winch-access issue that he planned to replace the bumper. Worth knowing before buying, particularly if you’re running a winch without remote clutch engagement.

CBI Lexus GX550 Rear Bumper

CBI Lexus GX550 Rear Bumper

CBI’s steel rear bumper adds wrap-around corner protection, integrated recovery points and a hitch receiver while retaining compatibility with the GX550’s blind-spot monitoring and proximity sensors, although sensor recalibration may be necessary. Cutouts allow flush-mounted auxiliary reverse lights, and the bumper serves as the foundation for CBI’s optional dual swing-arm system.

Advertised Price: $2,000–$2,200

Owner Review: A GX550 owner who installed the CBI rear bumper reported it looked great after installation and provided noticeably more clearance than the factory bumper.

CBI GX550 Dual Swing Arm Add-On

CBI Lexus GX550 Dual Swing Arm Add-On

For GX550 owners carrying oversized spare tires, fuel, recovery equipment or other expedition gear, CBI offers a dual swing-arm system for its rear bumper. Two bolt-on swing arms and a choice of straight or angled tire carrier configurations move bulky equipment outside the cargo area. One important tradeoff: CBI states the swing arms block the factory proximity sensors, which will need to be deactivated.

Advertised Price: $1,620–$1,820 (rear bumper sold separately)

CBI GX550 Full Skid Plate System

CBI GX550 Full Skid Plate System

If you’re actually going to wheel a GX550, underbody protection moves quickly from “nice to have” to cheap insurance. CBI’s full skid system protects the engine, transmission, transfer case and other vulnerable underbody areas in steel or lighter-weight aluminum. It bolts to existing mounting locations and includes service-access points so routine maintenance doesn’t require dismantling the armor.

Advertised Price: $1,260–$1,580

Important Owner Report: At least one GX550 owner has reported interference between the CBI skid system and the KDSS system at full suspension articulation. CBI acknowledged it was evaluating revised clearance. If your GX550 has E-KDSS and sees serious articulation, confirm the latest skid revision with CBI before ordering.

CBI GX550 Front Skid Plate

CBI GX550 Front Skid Plate

For owners who don’t need the entire skid system, CBI sells the front section separately. Available in steel or aluminum, it protects the vulnerable forward undercarriage against rocks and trail debris while retaining bolt-on installation and maintenance access. E-KDSS owners should ask CBI whether the latest version incorporates any clearance revisions.

Advertised Price: $580–$740

CBI GX550 Rear Skid Plate

The rear section extends protection farther down the GX550’s underbody and is available separately for owners who want to build their armor package in stages. CBI offers steel and aluminum versions with factory-mount bolt-on installation, service access and optional powder coating.

CBI Lexus GX550 Lower Control Arm Skids

CBI Lexus GX550 Lower Control Arm Skids

The GX550’s lower control arms sit in exactly the sort of place that eventually finds a rock on technical trails. CBI’s armor plates add sacrificial protection to these vulnerable suspension components without the expense or weight of another large skid plate.

CBI GX550 Overland Kickout Rock Sliders

CBI GX550 Overland Kickout Rock Sliders

These are the sliders we’d choose for a GX550 that regularly sees real trails. Built from DOM tubing with a fully welded boxed structure, they bolt on without cutting or welding, and add rear kickouts that provide extra body protection, a wider stepping area and a useful pivot point around obstacles.

Advertised Price: $1,360–$1,440

Owner Review #1: One GX550 owner reported that the kickout protected the rear door while pivoting around a tree on a narrow trail and praised both the installation and powder-coat durability.

Owner Review #2: A GX550 overland build owner selected the CBI kickout sliders after replacing the factory Lexus sliders and continues to run them on a heavily modified trail build.

CBI Lexus GX550 Standard Overland Rock Sliders

CBI Lexus GX550 Standard Overland Rock Sliders

The standard version uses the same heavy-duty philosophy without the rear kickout. DOM tubing, a fully welded boxed design and direct bolt-on installation give the GX550 genuine rocker protection, while integrated step areas make the sliders useful every day.

Advertised Price: $1,360–$1,440

Owner Feedback: GX550 forum discussions consistently point to the CBI sliders as one of the heavier-duty bolt-on options, particularly because of their frame-mounted construction, E-KDSS compatibility and ability to double as a usable step.

CBI Lexus GX550 Side Steps

CBI Lexus GX550 Side Steps

Not everybody needs 100-plus pounds of rock sliders. CBI’s GX550 side steps use the factory mounting locations, retain compatibility with the factory mud flaps and provide a high-traction step without hanging excessively low or wide. Just understand what you’re buying: CBI explicitly warns these are side steps, not rock sliders. If your GX is going to be dropped onto rocks, buy the sliders.

Prinsu Lexus GX550 Rear Window Accessory Panel

Prinsu Lexus GX550 Rear Window Accessory Panel

A clever way to turn otherwise useless exterior window space into gear storage. The lightweight aluminum panel attaches to a Prinsu rack and uses two suction cups against the window, providing mounting points for RotopaX, Power Tanks, DMOS shovels, mini MAXTRAX, Quick Fists and similar gear. Each panel is rated for up to 50 lbs of accessories and is available for either side of the GX550.

Advertised Price: $520

Prinsu Lexus GX550 Ladder

Prinsu Lexus GX550 Ladder

The Prinsu ladder provides permanent access to roof cargo and rooftop tents without drilling the GX550. Built in Idaho from 14-gauge steel and square tubing, it weighs just 17 lbs but carries a claimed 260-lb load, installs with a clamp system and remains compatible with the power liftgate and CBI tire carrier. One significant compromise: installing the ladder prevents access to the GX550’s flip-up rear glass.

Advertised Price: $480

Prinsu GX550 Ladder Accessory Panel

Prinsu GX550 Ladder Accessory Panel

The ladder accessory panel converts part of the Prinsu GX550 ladder into exterior gear storage. Laser-cut aluminum panels replace selected ladder rungs while retaining usable footholds and add mounting slots for RotopaX and other trail equipment.

CBI Lexus GX550 Ditch Light Brackets

CBI Lexus GX550 Ditch Light Brackets

A simple upgrade, but a useful one. These steel brackets bolt onto the GX550 without drilling and provide solid mounting locations for LED pods aimed toward the sides of the trail — exactly where headlights don’t help when you’re trying to spot a turn, washout or campsite after dark. CBI lists installation at roughly 30 minutes.

Advertised Price: $110

Which CBI/Prinsu GX550 Upgrades Should You Buy First?

If you’re building a GX550 primarily for overlanding, start with the Prinsu Pro Roof Rack, then add the kickout rock sliders and underbody protection based on how difficult your trails actually are.

For a more serious off-road build, the rock sliders, full skid system and front bumper move much higher on the list because they protect expensive parts of an expensive truck. The rear bumper and swing-arm system make more sense once tire size, recovery equipment or expedition load starts forcing gear outside the vehicle.

And that’s really the appeal of the CBI/Prinsu GX550 lineup: you don’t have to build the entire truck at once. Start with the pieces that solve problems you actually have, then add armor, storage and recovery capability as your adventures demand it.
